Gladwyne - Portraiture: Edna Creelman
Meet Edna Creelman, our first Artist in Residence: a multidisciplinary artist based in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, whose creative journey brings vibrant energy to our community. She works primarily from her cozy basement studio, often accompanied by her dog, Walter, and her cat, Richard.
Edna’s artistic practice centers on portraiture and the study of the human face, though she thrives by exploring a variety of creative mediums. Edna’s perspective is shaped by her academic background in sociology and philosophy from Haverford College. For her senior project, she created a series of handcrafted ceramic plate-ware featuring hand-painted portraits of influential scholars who inspired her academic path. Through all her work, Edna invites us to look beyond the surface, sparking the imagination to consider each subject’s unique story and inner world. She hopes her pieces spark curiosity, encouraging everyone to “read” a face, appreciate its nuances, and join in the larger artistic and philosophical conversation.
